During the early years of the nation of the United States, most white males met property requirements. However, many groups were historically denied the right to vote. In this lesson you will learn how the right to vote has been expand since 1787 to not include almost all citizens 18 years or older. By the end of this lesson you should be able to describe the extension of the franchise as a result of changes in voting laws, amendments to the Constitution, and the Supreme Court decisions.
